HOW TO REWAX GUIDE

CLASSIC 60Z WAX

Waxed cotton is extremely durable, available in a number of weights including 6oz and 8oz.

Our oldest and traditional wax cotton is called sylkoil, and can be adopted for all weathers.

Learn how to care for this type of wax by following our guide below.

You Will Need :
  • Wax
  • Pan/Bowl
  • Hot Water
  • Sponge
  • Hairdryer (optional)
  • STEP 1.
  • Clean your jacket
  • Clean the jacket using cold water and a sponge to wipe down the outside of the jacket.

Avoid using hot water, any kind of soap and NEVER put the jacket in the washing machine,

as this will remove the wax coating permanently and the jacket cannot be rewaxed.

  • STEP 2.
  • Soften the wax
  • Take a tin of Barbour Wax Thornproof dressing. Remove the lid,

stand the tin of dressing in a container of water hot enough to soften the wax.

It should take approximately 20 minutes to melt the wax into a liquid consistency.

  • STEP 3.
  • Wax your jacket
  • Using an old cloth or sponge, work the melted wax well into the jacket paying particular attention to seams,

creases and dry patches. Wipe off any excess wax.

You should keep the wax tin in the hot water while working in order to keep the wax softened.

If the wax begins to harden top the container with more hot water.

Ensure you keep the wax away from the corduroy collar, the inside of the jacket and inside of the pockets.

  • STEP 4.
  • Dry your jacket
  • To ensure you get an extra smooth finish on your rewaxing,

blow over the jacket with a hair dryer to even the spread of wax.

Remember not to do this too closely, as it may heat up the wax too much, causing it to run.

  • STEP 5.
  • Re-wax your jacket once a year
  • Once you've re-waxed the jacket, hang it up. Allow to dry overnight in a warm place away from other garments.

Be aware the jacket may lose excess wax for a short while

so take care not to get your newly waxed jacket near leather or upholstery.

HOW TO REWAX GUIDE

LIGHTWEIGHT 4OZ WAX

At approximately 75% of the weight of Babour's exisiting waxes, Lightweight wax is very resilient and retains wax extremely well,

meaning that it will hardly ever need to be rewaxed. If rewaxing is required you can purchase a lightweight wax stick and follow our easy guide below.

  • Step 1 | Getting ready
  • Check the Care Label inside your jacket to ensure you have the right Wax.

Cover your work surface and gather the things you'll need to reproof your Lightweight Wax Jacket :

a Lightweight Wax Stick, a hairdryer, and a lint-free cloth.

  • Step 2 | Begin applying the wax
  • Always start at the back of your jacket, applying an even layer by dragging the wax stick across it,

paying extra attention to creases and seams.

  • Step 3 | Warm the wax
  • Using the hairdryer, pass over the areas where you've applied the wax with a moderate heat to soften it into the fabric.

  • Step 4 | Work in the wax
  • Use the lint-free cloth to rub the wax into your jacket, ensuring that it is evenly distributed.

Once you have finished the back, you will need to repeat this process for the sleeves and front of your jacket.

  • Step 5 | Leave overnight to dry
  • Hang your jacket in a cool, dry place to dry overnight
